Rumours suggest that Liverpool’s summer shopping isn’t quite over yet with an £11 million bid being registered by the Reds for Borussia Dortmund winger Christian Pulisic.
Liverpool lost 2-0 to Burnley last weekend and what was lacking from that game was penetration going forward from the Reds with Sadio Mane out with a shoulder injury. The former Southampton winger is the only player in Liverpool’s team who possesses true pace going forward and in his absence there is no-one take up the baton.
Klopp has turned to former club Borussia Dortmund and has identified Christian Pulisic as the man to bring more pace to Liverpool’s squad. According to the Express’s Paul Joyce, Liverpool are not alone in their pursuit of the young talent as Stoke are also interested.
During his time at Dortmund, Klopp promoted Pulisic to train with the first team squad as he clearly saw the potential in the Pennsylvanian youngster. However, as Steve Nicol said while peaking on ESPN FC’s panel it doesn’t make much sense from Pulisic’s perspective to move to Liverpool as he won’t get much more game time at Liverpool than he would at Dortmund.
One thing that makes me frustrated about this rumour, if it’s true, is that Liverpool are still seeking out attacking talent when there are clear defensive insecurities within the squad that haven’t been addressed. Left back and defensive midfield are still unaddressed and there are but four days until the last day of the transfer window.
