Despite reports indicating that Stoke City are interested in signing Mamadou Sakho, the Frenchman could actually head off to Crystal Palace to join up with Christian Benteke.

Sakho’s position in the Liverpool squad is rather tenuous at the moment after he was sent home from the club’s pre-season tour of the United States just months after being suspended by UEFA for a positive drugs result. Although the charges were dropped and Sakho has been cleared of all wrongdoing, the suspension resulted in a lot of negative publicity for the club.

Sakho missed the entirety of Liverpool’s pre-season due to an Achilles tendon injury. Since returning to training he has been made available for loan in order to find regular game time to stay sharp with it unlikely that he will be in the starting lineup as Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip are ahead in the defensive pecking order.

TuttoMercatoWeb, via the Liverpool Echo, claim that Crystal Palace are interested in taking Sakho on loan. He would join up with Christian Benteke who moved to London last week in a £27 million million deal which could rise to £32 million due to add-ons.
