Sheyi Ojo has suffered an injury setback and will missa further four weeks of football.
Liverpool’s injury list is already fairly lengthy with Lucas Leiva, Joe Gomez and Loris Karius all sidelined. Daniel Sturridge, James Milner and Jöel Matip have only just returned from respective injuries and are in contention for their first appearances of the season against Burnley on the weekend.
And now Ojo has joined the worryingly long list after a scan revealed that he has suffered a fracture in his back, according to the Liverpool Echo. The England Under-19 international told club doctors he had back pain and he subsequently missed the last two pre-season games against Barcelona and Mainz.
What was initially thought to be a minor issue has turned out to be quite the opposite. The small fracture in Ojo’s back will seem him ruled out util mid-September. It’s unlikely that one particular clash caused the issue but rather a build up of stress as a result of “sustained heavy workload.” Rest is the remedy and thankfully the issue doesn’t require surgery.
The 2016/17 season was supposed to offer an opportunity for Ojo to really kick on after the young winger impressed hugely both on loan with Wolves and with Liverpool. He made 11 first-team appearances under Klopp before heading off to the Under-19 Euros with England.
