Liverpool are being linked with the purchase of Arsenal target Shkodran Mustafi with Spanish radio station Cadena SER claiming that the Reds are interested in signing the Valencia centre-back.
However, the Daily Mail report that Liverpool are distancing themselves from any rumours surrounding the German international. It may be that personnel in and around Valencia are leaking information to spike Mustafi’s price tag and take advantage of the bloated transfer fees that seem customary in England these days.
Mustafi would be an astute signing but given that he’s a left sided centre half and that Liverpool are well stocked in that position it’s unlikely any approaches have been made. Furthermore, what the Reds do need is a new left back given that Alberto Moreno is, well, Alberto Moreno.
It would be funny however, if Liverpool did sign Mustafi as it would just compound Arsenal’s defence issues given that their three best centre halves are all missing through lack of fitness. However, it can be said with almost complete certainty that Liverpool won’t be signing Mustafi.
If anyone is going to sign the German it will be Arsenal as the Gunners look to find some cover in defence with Gabriel and Mertesacker out with long term injuries. Thierry Henry and many other pundit have publicly urged Arsene Wenger to delve into the transfer market to find cover in defence.
