Liverpool kicked off their Premier League season in emphatic style as the Emirates witnessed a Premier League classic.

Admittedly it may not be a fair reflection of Arsenal’s true abilities due to the number of players the Gunners had missing but the same can be said for Liverpool. The Merseyside outfit were without Mamadou Sakho, Lucas Leiva and Daniel Sturridge – all very important figures in the Liverpool team.

However, regardless of your perspective it was very clear that Liverpool were the deserved winners when Michael Oliver finally blew his whistle after 96 minutes of action packed and frenzied football.

Klopp described the game as being a “wheelie” in the context of the season ahead and that winning 4-3 on the opening day doesn’t necessarily mean that the rest of the season will be filled with similar results. All the same it is clear just how much the victory meant to the Liverpool boss.

As little as it may mean at this point, it’s very nice to see Liverpool second on the log. Not so much that United are first though!
