Arsene Wenger spoke to the media ahead of the season opener at the Emirates on Sunday.

Arsenal are suffering a defensive injury crisis with Per Mertesacker, Gabriel and Laurent Koscielny all set to miss the clash between the two clubs. Wenger mentioned that Mertesacker is out for 4 months, Gabriel 4-6 weeks and Koscielny is merely not fit enough after joining up with the Arsenal squad late due to France’s heavy involvement Euro 2016.

Wenger is not of the opinion that it’s necessarily a good thing to get the big games out of the way early on and believes that Liverpool would pose a challenge to his team regardless of when the sides meet up.

When asked about the money being spent by the Manchester clubs Wenger rejected notions that the money being spent is frustrating Arsenal’s own attempts to sign players.

The press conference concluded with the Wenger making the joke that every manager makes which isn’t as funny as they think when a cellphone rang and he said,” There’s a phone ringing here. I can take it, if you want.” Hilarious.
