Lucas Leiva is swerving yet another summer transfer, according to the Liverpool Echo.
It has almost become tradition for Lucas to spend the summer being linked with a move to a Turkish football club but then pull out at the last minute. He almost left the club for Besiktas before the start of last season but decided to stay and fight for his place on Merseyside.
Something similar has happened again.
Galatasaray’s sporting director Levent Nazifoglu has told told reporters that a move for Lucas has fallen through despite reports at the weekend claiming a deal was imminent, according to the Liverpool Echo.
“We are no longer pursuing Lucas Leiva, we will continue efforts to sign alternative names instead,” Nazifoglu is reported to have said.
The reason Lucas is staying at Liverpool is due to the number of defensive injuries that the club has suffered. Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and Mamadou Sakho are all out due to injury. Lucas is also inured but Klopp is keeping the Brazilian on due to his versatility shown by his appearances at centre-back last season.
