According to Gazzetta World, Roma are interested in signing Lazar Markovic from Liverpool.

The reports are very strange as they claim that Markovic would come in as a replacement for Miralem Pjanic. Why Roma would replace a central midfielder with a winger is beyond me.

Preliminary discussions have already taken place between Liverpool and both Fiorentina and Sporting Lisbon over a potential transfer for the Serbian wide-man, according to the report. It is still yet to be seen whether or not a bid will come in for Markovic though with no offers received as yet.

Liverpool would prefer to sell as it would offer a chance to recoup the £20 million that was spent on the player. A loan move, while not preferable, is possible with it unlikely that Markovic will feature much for Liverpool other than in the odd cup tournament and off the bench in the league.

He struggled with a few injury issues last season while on loan with Fenerbache but it seems he is fully fit and can offer something in the attacking midfield department. He will face stiff competition in the wide areas from £34 million man, Sadio Mané and Anfield resident, Philippe Coutinho.

Markovic arrived from Benfica for £20 million in 2014 but he’s done little to justify the big reputation and price tag he brought to Merseyside.
