Mamadou Sakho has been sent home from Liverpool’s tour of the United States by Jürgen Klopp, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool’s new number 3 injured his Achilles tendon and has been on tour with the Reds despite being unable to feature in any of the pre-season games. The Parisian appeared in a comical LFCTV exclusive which showed Sakho filming the touring squad visiting Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay.

While the video may have appeared quite hilarious during a first watch, in conjunction with the news that Klopp has sent Sakho home to recuperate it raises a few questions. It is reported by the Echo that Sakho has been sent back to Liverpool to continue his rehabilitation at Melwood. This is in direct contrast to the fact that Lucas Leiva and Joe Gomez, who are both set to miss the beginning of the Premier League season, are still Stateside.

With regards to Sakho’s GoPro filming of Liverpool’s outing in San Francisco, it has to be pointed out that Sakho interrupted Klopp’s interview with LFCTV and was scolded for being late to training the day before.

The news that Sakho has been sent home to recuperate at Melwood casts doubt over his future at Liverpool. Although, it is unlikely that the France international would be cast aside after recently changing his kit number. That being said, it is pleasing to see how ruthless and stern Klopp is. In the days that Rodgers ruled as Liverpool boss it was disheartening to see how little authority he had.

Klopp is building a team winners and if Sakho is a distraction to the squad he can’t be allowed to taint the mission that Fenway Sports Group has with the club, which is to restore Liverpool to the the top level of football.
