Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Jetro Willems from PSV Eindhoven for £13 million in order to find solidity at the back, Joe Allen’s move to Stoke City is very close plus Fiorentina want Markovic on loan.
Alberto Moreno has been very poor at left-back for some time with the Spaniard making two very costly mistakes in two separate cup finals last season. Supporters are fed up with the former-Sevilla man’s incompetence and are calling for a replacement.
The Liverpool Echo have identified this replacement as being Georginio Wijnaldum’s national teammate, Jetro Willems. The 22 year old would provide competition for a player who is virtually unrivalled at the moment and not due to his superb talent in defence. Moreno’s tendency to switch off at set pieces and his awful positioning has cost Liverpool silverware on two separate occasions. That is damning.
Brad Smith is on the verge of signing for Bournemouth. Liverpool have accepted a £6 million bid for the Australian, also via the Echo, which will mean that Moreno actually will be unchallenged and this almost alludes to the signing of a new left sided fullback. Joe Rimmer of the Echo reflects this sentiment in his daily transfer roundup video.
Liverpool haven’t had a left back of high quality since John Arne Riise wore red. It has been a troubling position ever since with Jose Enrique and Aly Cissokho two of the players who took up the position unsuccessfully.

Joe Allen is very close to a move to Stoke City after the Potters had a £13 million bid accepted for the Welsh midfielder last week.
In his daily transfer roundup video, Joe Rimmer mentions that various newspapers this morning report that Allen will meet with Mark Hughes soon today. The Telegraph report that Allen will meet with the Stoke boss ahead over a potential move and the Mirror report that Liverpool could make an extra £2 million out of the deal should Stoke remain in the Premier League and finish tenth or higher.
Allen will likely complete his move within 48 hours which means Liverpool will be very shorthanded in midfield at the beginning of the season. With the Welshman’s departure and Lucas Leiva’s injury the Reds are lacking in midfield.
Lazar Markovic could be departing Merseyside, again. He left Liverpool for Turkey last season on loan and he has just jetted off with the squad on tour but the Serbian may well be set for another loan move away from Liverpool.
Fiorentina are reportedly interested in taking Markovic to Italy, that’s according to Gazetta Dello Sport anyway. It’s unlikely that Klopp wants to lose one of the only true wide players in the squad. Even if the reports are true and Fiorentina are keen to take him on loan the move doesn’t really benefit Liverpool.
Markovic won’t develope much more in Italy than he would at Liverpool and the club won’t receive a fee as compensation so there is no reason to believe that this deal is likely to happen.
