Liverpool have signed Alex Manninger, Max Meyer is linked with the Reds and Roberto Mancini could be prepared to have a go at managing Balotelli again.
Alex Manninger has signed a contract with Liverpool after training with the club for a few weeks. The 39 year old Austrian is the second player to join Liverpool from FC Augsburg this summer.
The signing comes after two of the club’s goalkeepers departed on loan. Danny Ward and Adam Bogdan have been loaned to Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic respectively with it unlikely that either would find regular football on Merseyside next term.
Liverpool’s new goalkeeper is delighted and somewhat surprised at being offered the chance to play for Liverpool. He spoke to reporters from Liverpool’s official website shortly after signing his contract in the United States where Liverpool are on tour:
Honestly, it was a surprise. After these years, in Italy and the last four years in Germany, I hadn’t given up, I hadn’t said ‘that’s it’, I still waited for the phone call.
“When Liverpool was on the phone, it was a great pleasure for me to take it on because it gives me what I was looking for. This is the moment I was waiting for until the end.
“I’ve still got something left, for sure, but obviously it’s probably not the time for me to push for the next three or four years to get a place in the goal. Because time says it’s not possible to play 50 games a year. But if I’m called up, I’m definitely there for games, I will play. And I’ll definitely be in the changing room every game, giving my input; I hope, even if it’s only a couple of per cent, it will do the rest.”
Liverpool have been linked with signing of FC Shalke’s Max Meyer by Bild. The rumours have appeared even though the Reds are on the verge of signing Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum.
The talented German would have a difficult time finding a regular spot in Liverpool’s team which is laden with attacking midfielders. I must admit it is somewhat annoying that Liverpool are continuously linked with the purchase of attacking midfielder after attacking midfielder when there hasn’t been a defensive midfielder of note since Javier Mascherano left for Barcelona.
Klopp is said to be a huge fan of Meyer with his appreciation of the young German going back to the days when he was the manager of Borussia Dortmund.
Klopp could finally get his man and Liverpool could be where he gets him. Fenway Sports Group will have to fork out around £27 million to make this deal happen. It’s hard to see FSG coughing up more money to spend on another attacking midfield player. That being said, nobody expected FSG to sanction a £32.5 million transfer for Christian Benteke so crazier things have happened.
Roberto Mancini could be prepared to resume the hugely entertaining relationship that he had with Mario Balotelli by taking him to Inter Milan. That is, if he is available on the cheap. Can you blame him? The controversial forward has only scored a handful of goals in the last two years while causing a whole lot of trouble.
Balotelli was told by Jürgen Klopp that he needs to find a new club as there is no place at Anfield for the striker.
According to Tuttosport, Roberto Mancini is one of Balotelli’s few remaining admirers and thinks that the controversial forward has matured in recent years.
A move could be complicated by the fact that Balotelli has often declared his love for AC Milan, Inter’s fiercest rivals.
