Ex-Liverpool player, Dirk Kuyt claims that the Reds have always admired Georginio Wijnaldum.

According to Give Me Sport, Dirk Kuyt says that when he was at Liverpool Wijnaldum’s name was buzzing around the club. The speed with which Liverpool have acted may lead people to believe the move for the Dutchman was one of spontaneity and opportunity but Kuyt’s assertions imply he was always on Liverpool’s radar.

Back then however, Wijnaldum was merely an exciting prospect at Feyenoord.

Kuyt said to Dutch newspaper Telegraaf: ““A wonderful transfer for Gini. The best compliment for him was that his name in my time at Liverpool buzzed inside the club.”

Liverpool are on the verge of signing Wijnaldum for a fee around the £25 million mark. He adds to what promises to be a glittering and highly exciting attack. He will be the sixth signing of the window after Loris Karius, Jöel Matip and Ragnar Klavan came into fix the defence, and Marko Grujic and Sadio Mané take up spots in central and attacking midfield respectively.
