FC Augsburg defender has completed is medical ahead of a £4.2 million move to Liverpool.

The Estonian defender played against Liverpool last season in the Europa League and is being brought in to provide cover for Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez.

Klopp is looking to shore up a defence that saw Liverpool concede over 50 goals last season. He will provide experience in a similar capacity to Kolo Toure who left the club upon the expiry of his contract.

Liverpool are hugely short on defenders with Toure gone, Skrtel off to Turkey, Sakho and Gomez injured and Klavan is a player that Klopp identified to help out with the defensive crisis at the club.

With 100 caps for his country and 4 successful season in the Bundesliga, Klavan is a suitable short term option in defence for Klopp

Klavan arrived at Melwood to undergo a medical examination and according to Sky Sports the defender completed the examination without any issues. He will become Liverpool’s fifth signing of the window.

Liverpool take on Huddersfield Town in their foruth pre-season game and it is doubtful that Klavan will feature.
