According to various reports, Liverpool are set to sign Estonian footballer, Ragnar Klavan.

The 30 year old will serve as cover to Mamadou Sakho, who has suffered an Achilles tendon injury.

Liverpool are severely short on central-defenders and the Augsburg captain will serve a role similar to that of Steven Caulker last season.

According to the BBC, Augsburg will receive £4.2 million for the transfer of Klavan.

Joe Gomez has also suffered an injury setback which means that Liverpool will start the season without two of their centre-halves. Yesterday, against Wigan, Jöel Matip also seemed to pick up an injury. However, Jürgen Klopp was quick to tell Liverpool’s official website that the injury is not too serious:

“I hope it’s only a minor problem,” Klopp said. “He said he’s had it one or two times already.

“It’s the foot he had problems with in the past and then he had a little bit of pain when preseason started because of the intensity.

“It’s not too serious, hopefully. We had to make the decision of Joel or Dejan [Lovren], who has to play the whole 90 minutes?

“We decided on Joel. For him it was a little bit too much but he is in a good way, as you can see.”
