According to reports, Liverpool have been in contact with Newcastle to discuss the signing of Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Dutchman had a successful first season in England despite Newcastle being dumped out of the Premier League. HITC.com are reporting that Liverpool have contacted the now Championship side to enquire about the players availability.
The 25-year old arrived from PSV Eindhoven for £14.5 million and Newcastle could nearly double their investment in just short of a year with their asking price for the creative midfielder said to be £25 million.
A source told HITC Sport: “Interest is now there, a deal is going to happen and Newcastle have made it clear their demands.” Their valuation may turn Liverpool off to a potential deal.
Wijnaldum would be a good addition but not quite what Liverpool need. Should Liverpool invest slightly more there are more talented players who are accustomed to the rigours of playing for big clubs.
With Sadio Mané recently arriving from Southampton for £34 million it is unlikely that Liverpool will invest big bucks for a player unless he can make the first team and I doubt that Wijnaldum would start ahead of either Coutinho, Firmino or Mané.
Tottenham are also said to be interested in acquiring Wijnaldum’s services.
