Sunday is supposedly a day of rest but it would seem the footballing world missed that memo amidst all the transfer paperwork.
Piotr Zielinski has been the subject of Liverpool related media speculation for several weeks now. The latest is that Udinese has rejected an £11.7 million bid from the Reds. The news comes from the BBC who also say that an identical offer has been submitted by Napoli.
The Polish midfielder, who would be Liverpool’s fourth acquisition of the summer, has said that he’d rather wait out the next two years of his contract and leave on a free than move to Napoli.
He’s clearly got his heart set on a move to a Liverpool but there are doubt as to whether he is on the level that Liverpool need.
What’s more is that AC Milan have joined Zielinski’s list of suitors. According to Gazetta World the Serie A side are interested in signing him.
Udinese’s sporting director Nereo Bonato said that AC Milan want to sign Zielinski but that Napoli remain favourites:
“Milan are interested in Zielinski,” Bonato told Milan News. “Yet aside from making enquiries in informal talks, they have not made any concrete offers.
“We have a formal agreement with Napoli but this deal can not be completed because the player has not yet agreed personal terms with the club.”
Liverpool have also been heavily linked with a summer move for German international, Mahmoud Dahoud. The Borussia Mönchengladbach star rejected a contract fueling reports that he could make an Anfield move.
Dahoud’s choice to turn down a contract extension could open the door to a move to Liverpool but it is unlikely that Liverpool will be unchallenged for his signature after having a hugely impressive 2015/16 campaign.
Another midfielder said to be on Klopp’s radar is Belgium star, Axel Witsel. The Liverpool Echo are reporting that he could be an alternative to Grzegorz Krychowiak, who Liverpool supposedly ‘missed out’ on with the Pole set to join Paris Saint-Germain.
The Echo are reporting that Liverpool and Everton could be set to battle it out for Witsel’s signature. The Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder was dumped out of the Euros by Wales on Friday and it could mean that there will be more chance of the Belgian moving clubs now.
It must be said that he’ll cost an arm and a leg. His move to Russia from Benfica cost €40 million so if Liverpool make any bids they’ll be North of £25 million.
That’s it for Sunday. Enjoy the remainder of your weekend, folks!
