Liverpool have announced the signing of Jöel Matip from Shalke with the Cameroonian joining on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract in Germany.
Possibly one of the best pieces of business you’ll see this window is the free transfer of Matip to Liverpool. The young centre-half brings some much needed height to Liverpool’s side. Last season many a goal was conceded as a result of an inability to defend against strong or robust forwards.
Liverpool’s media team announced the signing on all social media platforms, but initially on the club’s official website.

Matip is likely to miss at least six games in January and February with the African Cup of Nations taking place in Gabon next year. His absence will surely be missed with it highly likely that the Cameroonian will be a starter next season.
It is also noteworthy that Matip is a great ball player and is capable of playing as a defensive midfielder. So he will provide competition amongst the centre-halves as well as breathing down the necks of the club’s midfielders.
