Thursday’s transfer roundup brings us news of Christian Benteke, Axel Witsel and Jerome Sinclair’s move to Watford has been finalized.

As the Liverpool Echo’s Joe Rimmer put it perfectly this morning,” Reds fans better have a pinch of salt at the ready.”

With Liverpool’s deal for Sadio Mané all done and dusted news casters across the globe have continued to churn out reports linking the club with players from just about every club in Europe. We’ve now made it to Russia with Tuttomercatoweb citing the Reds as a possible club for Axel Witsel to move to once he has finished up with Belgium in France at the Euros.

You know that salt that Joe mentioned? Yeah, now would be a great time to take it while processing this particular piece of the roundup. The 27 year old has 71 caps for his country and is also being linked with giants like Juventus, Chelsea, Manchester United, Napoli and funnily enough even our neighbours across the park, Everton.

I urge you not to get too hyped up about this one.

In slightly more concrete news, Christian Benteke seems likely to remain on Merseyside. The Belgian has been linked with a move away from Liverpool for some time. Chelsea have been among the parties rumoured to be interested.

Crystal Palace have emerged as a more likely destination should the tall striker depart. According to the Telegraph, Liverpool are said to value Benteke at £30 million, just under what he was bought for from Aston Villa almost a year ago.

There is debate over whether or not Liverpool should sell Benteke. While the forward is clearly not suited to Jürgen Klopp’s playing style, he offers a secondary approach when the going gets tough. This cannot be overvalued with Liverpool often thwarted after being too predictable.

Jerome Sinclair’s move to Watford has been confirmed after the two clubs agreed upon a fee for compensation for the forward.

After appearing for Liverpool against West Brom in 2012 as a 16 year old, Sinclair is the youngest player to appear for the club in a competitive fixture. He hasn’t seemed to progress hugely on what appeared to be an incredibly promising career.

A statement on Liverpool’s official website reads:

“Liverpool Football Club can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Watford for the transfer of striker Jerome Sinclair.

“The 19-year-old has secured a move to Vicarage Road upon the expiry of his Reds contract but, as he is under the age of 24, his registration would have been subject to compensation in the form of a development fee.

“However, following amicable and professional discussions between Watford and Liverpool, the clubs have reached an agreement regarding a transfer. Liverpool would like to wish Jerome all the best in his new career with Watford.”

Another statement, this one from Watford adds: “The highly-rated forward has penned a five-year deal at Vicarage Road and becomes the Hornets’ first new signing ahead of the 2016/17 Premier League campaign.”

That concludes another crazy day of transfer rumours. Liverpool were even linked with Memphis Depay – which isn’t even worth dedicating a paragraph to. Cheers folks.
