According to L’Equippe, Liverpool are interested in signing relegated Newcastle and France international Moussa Sissoko.
Newcastle finished the 2015/16 season on 37 points, one win away from safety. The difference those three points makes is monumental not least because of the new TV deal but because of the players that want to leave the club. One such player who has made his desire public is midfielder Moussa Sissoko.
He said while being interviewed by Foot Mercato earlier this month,”I have reached a level where playing in the Championship would be difficult for me. I need to continue to evolve.”
This is entirely understandable with the Frenchman set to turn 27 years old just five days after the beginning of next season. He will nearing his prime soon and it would be a waste of talent for him to spend the next season or two in the Championship where the level of play is certainly nowhere near the Premier League.
If Klopp is indeed interested in acquiring Sissoko’s services then he must believe that the powerful midfielder can add something to Liverpool’s incomplete engine room. The Frenchman is a brilliant counter attacking player which great pace and power and strength that is most usually seen on centre-halves.
According to the Sunderland Echo current manger of Newcastle and former manager of Liverpool and Real Madrid, Rafa Benitez won’t sell Sissoko for anything less than £20 million. Quite frankly it’s the same as the Sadio Mane saga. A great palyer who is simply being valued at a price which doesn’t quite justify his talents. Especially when you consider Real Madrid signed Toni Kroos for of around £25 million.
Once again, when I think of each transfer I think of what Klopp would be thinking; almost like ‘What would Jurgen Klopp do?’ The result is my return to the belief that the German has the best interests of the club at heart knows exactly what he’s doing. If he thinks Sissoko would be a good addition to the squad for next season then I’ll have his back.
