Leicester City forward, Jamie Vardy is being linked with a move to both Liverpool and Arsenal, according to the Liverpool ECHO.
Liverpool are being linked with Premier League champion, Jamie Vardy with both the Liverpool ECHO and The Mirror saying that Arsenal will challenge the Merseyside club for the Englishman’s signature.
What is important to consider when reading the report from The Mirror is that John Cross basically hates Liverpool. I don’t suppose you remember when Arsenal, rather insultingly, bid £40 million and £1 for Luis Suarez in 2013. Cross’ hatred likely stems from Liverpool’s refusal to sell Suarez and John W. Henry’s insinuation that there was the smoking of something funky at the Emirates.
He seems to have taken this very badly.
“Jurgen Klopp‘s side are also interested in signing the 29-year-old and have offered him a bumper £140,000-a-week, but the release clause is only available to Champions League clubs,” wrote Cross regarding the Vardy saga.
While Vardy would be absolutely perfect for Klopp’s high pressing system and would provide a presence up top after his brilliant title winning season, he isn’t a necessity.
Liverpool, first and foremost, need a left-back and a new defensive midfielder. If Klopp continues to strengthen in defence it is likely that a strong base can be built to ensure disappointments like last season’s Capital One cup and Europa League finals won’t be repeated.
