Rumour Mill: Gonzalo Higuaín Keen on Liverpool Move

The Mirror is reporting that Gonzalo Higuaín is keen on a move to Liverpool despite the lack of European football for next season.

If FSG are ever going to break Liverpool’s current transfer fee record then it should be now. In 2011, £35 million was spent on Andy Carrol – a tremendous waste. 5 years, on reports  show that the marquee signing Liverpool have been craving for so long may well be happening.

Higuaín set a Serie A record last season, scoring 36 goals in 35 games. If that’s not the mark of a phenomenal forward then what is? Since Luis Suarez left for Barcelona in 2014, there has been a void left by the madman’s brilliance. As far as I am concerned, Higuaín is the way to go.

While the Argentinian hit-man may not be the harassing nuisance upfront that Suarez was it is not the end of the world. Scoring more than a goal a game should more than make up for that. That being said, when Klopp bought Robert Lewandowski he was hardly a presence as far as putting players under pressure is concerned.

Napoli are doubtful to be pleased at the prospect of relinquishing as hot a prospect as Higuaín but The Mirror also report that they are considering Romelu Lukaku as a replacement. This just gets better and better! Everton get weakened while Liverpool strengthen massively.

According to Squawka, Higuaín scored 36 goals from a total of 182 shots. To put this into perspective, all those who think Philippe Coutinho shoots a lot, Higuaín had 71 shots more, although his shot accuracy was 12% higher. Not surprising as Coutinho is a midfielder.

Manchester United have been linked with Zlatan Ibrahimovi since the Sweden announced his desire to leave Paris Saint-Germain. With Manchester United acquiring Jose Mourinho’s services, Liverpool need to raise their level and soon. Gonzalo Higuaín is the man to take Liverpool to that level.

If Klopp can pull off this transfer, and it will take a tremendous transfer fee, it will be the deal of the summer. A player of Higuaín’s pedigree can easily place Liverpool in a position to challenge not only for European football, but for the Premier League title. Napoli’s star is genuinely world class and this will take some work so don’t get worked up until you see the ‘Melwood Lean.’
