In a season which seems only to be getting better and better it would seem that Mario Götze may well be on his way to Liverpool. That is, if the rumours are to be believed. The latest from the rumour mill is that Götze “would fit in well” at Liverpool, according to Roberto Firmino.
I’m not sure that the German is necessarily needed with Liverpool currently boasting a surplus of attacking midfielders. That being said, it is undeniable that he would bring a pedigree to Anfield which has been lacking for so long.
If the rumours are to be believed then it must be that Jürgen Klopp has a way to fit him into his side and can do without a new winger. I am sure most teams. Bayern Munich aside, could make room for a player who has scored the winning goal in a World Cup final.
“I know Götze well from my time in Germany, when I played with Hoffenheim against Borussia Dortmund and Bayern,” Firmino told Bild.
“He has incredible qualities in attack.
“He would fit in well with us, and he will surely help us with his class also.”
It is no doubt that an attacking midfield triumvirate of Phillipe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Götze spearheaded by Daniel Sturridge is potentially world class. This is the sort of attacking lineup that a team challenging for titles requires.
The fact that Liverpool are being linked with players of Götze’s ability illustrates where the club is headed. The summer transfer window ahead is certainly an exciting one. Jürgen, if you’re reading this my suggestion is just to give Mario a ring. That’ll do it.
