Despite suffering what seemed to be a season ending injury, Divock Origi believes he has a chance to make it into the squad for the Europa League final on Wednesday. The Belgian has been working on his fitness and is ahead of schedule.
Manager, Jürgen Klopp said that both Origi and Jordan Henderson would need to demonstrate their fitness by Liverpool’s final game of the season against West Bromwich Albion to be in contention.
Origi was prolific before being injured by Everton’s Funes Mori. According to WhoScored.com he scored 5 goals in as many games before his injury. Defenders seem more wary of the forward and are reluctant to engage him directly. Since his arrival on Merseyside he has picked up 5 kg of weight in muscle and has gone up a shirt size. It would be a massive boost if he could carry his pre-injury form into the final.
“I’m ahead of schedule, so there’s still a chance for the final,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“I just have to do everything and it’s the manager who decides what will happen.
“I’d say my mind says that I can be ready but the body has to follow, so we’ll see.
“In every aspect I try to use my time to the maximum.
“You have time to think and see your game and so you can use this time in a good way.
“Now, mentally I’m fresh and everything’s okay, so hopefully my body will be right and then we’ll see.”
