In the wake of beating Manchester United out of the Europa League and it being announced that Liverpool will face Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-finals preparations are being for the Premier League fixture against Southampton.
After playing in a tie rich with history, hatred, controversy and drama, Liverpool’s attention will now turn to their domestic campaign. After picking up three consecutive wins and conceding just one goal Jürgen Klopp’s men are in good fettle.
This weekend will be pivotal in the title race and the fight for Champions League qualification. Considering the the fight for the Premier League title has absolutely nothing to do with Liverpool I won’t even mention it. However, the Manchester derby holds massive significance for the outcome of this season. Not to mention the fact that Chelsea are playing West Ham, another potential banana skin.
Klopp has yet again stressed the need to avoid complacency. It would be “so Liverpool” to knock United out of the Europa League only to lose to Southampton. It’s not a case of the Saints being a second tier team but the break in consistency needs to be avoided.
Here is Klopp’s pre-Southampton press conference.
