Liverpool claimed victory in the round of 16 clash with Manchester United in the Europa League. The 2-0 scoreline doesn’t reflect just how dominant Liverpool were.
The scoring was opened by Daniel Sturridge from the spot after Memphis Depay fouled Nathaniel Clyne in the box.
Jürgen Klopp was visibly pleased with the opener and his touchline hysterics seemed to annoy Louis Van Gaal. Klopp, as usual, seemed oblivious to Van Gaal’s irritation at such passionate celebrations.
This result stands Liverpool in a good stead with the return leg being at Old Trafford. Klopp and his players will make the short trip to Manchester with a two goal cushion. Furthermore due to Liverpool being knocked out of the FA Cup there won’t be a game for them this weekend. This means there will the rare opportunity for rest.
Roberto Firmino scored yet another goal. It is starting to become a nailed on thing that the Brazilian will score if he starts. Klopp will be telling his star man that he will be crucial from now to the end of the season.
Klopp stated in his pre-match conference that Liverpool will not be getting complacent or be getting ahead of themselves. That being said he must be getting the same buzz that the Liverpool supporters are getting that perhaps Champions League qualification is in fact on the cards.
